Unic has had a long standing tradition of giving back to society. Our Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR) philosophy is tied to our believe in the total well being of
our clients. Not only so, but also in our believe in the total well
being of the people in the societies in which we operate, and our
strong believe in the education of the next generation.
In 2006, we upheld this believe by engaging in various society support activities. In November
2006, we supported the
MTN marathon. Through our UNIC Health and
Health and subsidiary Critical Rescue International (CRI), we were able to offer our
ambulance services free of charge for the duration of the race. We did the same for many
other causes throughout the year and in many states of the federation, such as during school
events; sports events; musical conerts; Family Health Day; Children's Day celebration; other
national events etc. We also made our ambulance services available in instances of major fire
break outs. In total, through CRI, we rendered free ambulance services in about 80 different instances. In
many of these instances, these services are accompanied by free services of our doctors, nurses, first-aide
specialists, physiotherapists, and pharmacists.
We organized special seminars and walks for the World HIV Day and Breast Cancer Day respectively, and are responsible
for funding the website of the Bloom Cancer Care & Support Center. We also support the
Nigerian, 'model the UN' initiative on
a yearly basis. This is in addition to many more society impacting initiatives that we sponsor or co-sponsor every year.
We continued our CSR relations in 2007 and in 2008 we started the year by upholding our strong believe in the education of the
next generation by co sponsoring
Impace Youth Forum , an annually organized seminar and workshop to lift youth awareness on
how to capitalize on domestic and global opportunities in a fast changing world, in order to impact change in their respective communities.
This event is organized by
IMPACT (Inspiring Minds, Perceptions, Attitudes to Change Tommorrow), and is targeted at secondary school
students in SS1 - SS3 (10
th - 12
th grade), students in the transition period between secondary school and A-levels or
University.
Our CSR philosophy and activities tie neatly with our product lines and private equity investment choices (VGC Recreational Club and CRI) to
to communicate our firm believe in the total well being of peopl in general, and more specifically in the areas in which we operate.
