Chief (DR) Ernest Shonekan, GCFR, CBE – Chairman

Chief Shonekan is a seasoned solicitor and advocate of the Federal Supreme Court of Nigeria. He obtained LL.B (Hons) Degree of the University of London in 1962 and was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple). Besides being the Chairman of UNIC Insurance Plc, he is currently the Chairman, Tower Aluminium Plc, APM Terminals Apapa Ltd, Marc & Mei Nigeria Ltd; Maersk Shipping Line (Nigeria); Council member- Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Nigeria Institute of Management, St. John’s Ambulance; Fellow – Institute of Directors; Member – Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce, Nigerian-Netherlands Chamber of Commerce, Nigerian Stock Exchange and Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture. In addition to the above, Chief Shonekan was the Chairman and Managing Director of UAC Nigeria Plc - 1980 to 1993, Head of Government and Chairman Transition Council of Federal Republic of Nigeria – January 1993 – August 1993, Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

His Royal Highness, Alhaji Shehu Idris (CFR) – Director

Alhaji Idris is the Emir of Zazzau (Zaria) and the Chairman Kaduna State Council of Chiefs. He is also the Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is the Grand Patron of several Clubs and Associations in Nigeria. The first Chairman of Kaduna State Broadcasting Corporation (1978). He was Director, UAC of Nigeria Plc (1980) and Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants. Alhaji Idris had represented the Federal Government of Nigeria at several International Conferences in many countries. He is the Chairman of Nigerian German Chemicals Plc, Critical Rescue International Ltd and Maersk Nigeria Ltd.

Mr. Adeboyie Shonekan – Director

Mr. Shonekan obtained his first degree in Law (LL.B), 2nd Class Hons from the University of Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom (1986) and attended the management programme at Harvard Business School in 1998. He worked as Investment Officer with International Finance Corporation (1990-1995). He is the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian German Chemicals Plc. He is a director of several other companies, including Universe Reinsurance Limited, Virgin Nigeria Limited, Critical Rescue International and Intersource S A Limited.

Prof. Julius Onuora Onah - Director

Prof. Onah holds B. Sc. Degree in Business Administration from University of Nigeria Nsukka (1965) and M.B.A, M.A. and Ph. D. from Michigan State University, Michigan. Moreover, he obtained Post –Doctoral Diploma in Marketing Management with Distinction from Research Institute for Management Sciences, Deft Holland. Erudite Professor of Marketing, Prof. Onah is First Alumni of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to be made a Professor by the University and the first Nigerian Professor of Marketing. He is a member of the following professional bodies – F.C.I.M. (Great Britain), F.N.I.P.R., F.N.M.A., F.N.I.M.C. Apart from UNIC Insurance Plc, he has at various times been on the Board of NAL Merchant Bank Plc and ESUT Business Council amongst others.

Bismark J. Rewane - Director

He has more than twenty-five years of experience in Banking Finance and Research methods; he is an economist, educated at the University of Ibadan and at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He started his banking career with Barclays Bank in the United Kingdom. He proceeded to join the First National Bank of Chicago. He retired from the service of the First National Bank of Chicago to run the Financial Derivatives Company Limited, the leading Economic and Business research organization in Nigeria. He is currently a director of the Top Feeds Nigeria Limited and Delta Packaging Nigeria Limited, subsidiaries of Life Floor Mills and Seaboard group of Kansas City. Mr. Rewane serves on the Board of Directors of Virgin Nigeria Airways Limited a wholly private sector owned flag carrier for Nigeria. Financial Derivatives Company Limited acted as financial advisers in the conceptualization and development of a flag carrier between 2003 and 2005. He joined the Board of Unic Insurance Plc in January, 2007.

Mr. Olalekan Jenmi – Executive Director (Governance & Compliance)

Mr. Jenmi was educated at Yaba College of Technology where he studied Accountancy graduating with HND Upper Credit (1986). His professional qualifications amongst others include A.C.A (Associate Member, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) and ACIT (Associate Member, Chartered Institute of Taxation). Lekan worked with Nigeria Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) between 1990-1992 as Finance Officer. He joined Coopers and Lybrand (Chartered Accountants), now PricewaterHouseCoopers (PWC) as Senior Accountant rising to level of Audit Manager. He joined UNIC Insurance Plc in February 2002 as the Chief Internal Auditor and currently occupies the post of Executive Director (Compliance & Governance).

Ms. Kerina Chitsamatanga - Executive Director (Finance)

Ms Kerina Chitsamatanga is the Chief Finance Officer. Kerina holds a Bachelor of Business Studies (Accounting + Finance) degree and MBA (Accounting + Finance) degree from the University of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe. She started her insurance career with Lion of Zimbabwe Insurance company a subsidiary of Guardian Royal Exchange in 1995 where she held the position of Assistant General Manager (Finance, Administration and Systems)/Company Secretary before moving to Zimnat Lion Insurance company as the Chief Finance Officer/Company Secretary. She later on moved to the American International Group (AIG) Zimbabwe as the Finance Director. She became the Executive Director, Finance in January, 2007.

Mr. Adeyinka Shonekan – Chief Operating Officer, Asset Management

Mr. Adeyinka Shonekan holds a 1994 B. A. Economics Degree from the University of Leicester (UK) and a 1995 MBA in International Management from University of Exeter (UK). He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing England and Wales and has over 10 years post-graduation experience. He started his career in shipping and joined Guaranty Trust Bank in 1996 focusing mainly on Corporate Banking where he acquired special expertise in the Oil and Gas, Metal fabrication and Food and Beverage Industries. He left Guaranty Trust Bank as Head, Ikeja Branch to join Bond Bank at inception as the Group Head Corporate Banking. During his years at Bond Bank, he was also the Group Head: Oil and Gas, Telecoms and Special Projects. He left Bond Bank in 2005 to join UNIC Insurance Plc as Head, Asset Management and is presently the Chief Operating Officer, Asset Management.

Mr Oladale Olasope - Chief Operating Officer, Risk Management Strategy

Mr. Oladale Olasope holds a B.Sc Insurance (1994) from the University of Lagos and is presently on his MBA course at the Lagos Business School. He started his working career with Solid Trust Insurance Brokers as an Underwriting/ Marketing Officer in 1996 and then worked for various organizations including F &C Securities Limited, Lead Merchant Bank, Standard Trust Bank and UTC Plc. He moved to Oando Plc. from 2001 to 2004 where he worked in the Business Development Unit. He then had a brief stint with UTC Plc in 2004, before going back to Oando Plc as Outbound Logistics Manager, Strategy & Planning Manager, Divisional Manager and finally as Head, Business Development for Gaslink Nigeria Plc. (a subsidiary of Oando). In 2007, Mr. Olasope joined UNIC as the Chief Operating Officer, Risk Management Strategy.

Mrs Abigail Simon-Hart - General Manager, UNIC Health

Mrs. Abigail Simon-Hart graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, with a first class honors in Zoology. She later on went to do a Masters degree at the University of Jos. Her Marketing experience started with Westminster Dredging Nigeria Limited. She joined Air France Port Harcourt as Area Sales Consultant responsible for customer services, marketing and development of new products. In 2002, she became the Business Development Advisor West and Central Africa for Emergency Medical Care (Holdings) Paris, the medical platform of the AXA Assistance, where she was responsible for business development in the region. Mrs. Simon-Hart joined UNIC Health in 2005 as the General Manager
