Owing to the current global financial crisis, the former head of state and current Chairman, Unic Insurance Chief (DR) Ernest Shonekan; emphasized securing the nation’s economy with stimulus packages that will focus on infrastructural development for the survival of the industrial sector
With Britain approaching the end of recession and on the way to recovery as a result of implementing fiscal and monetary stimuli, Shonekan strongly believes that adopting such packages in Nigeria will go a long way to turn around the dwindling fortunes of the industrial sector especially at a critical time as this when the cost of doing business in Nigeria is continually on the rise with businesses saddled with the responsibility of providing their own infrastructures such as power, transportation etc. He also enjoins NBCC to intensify its advocacy efforts before policy makers to ensure that policies that are supportive to trade and investment were pursued.
The President of NBCC, Mr. Akinola Akintunde said that though the chamber is putting forward holistic approach in tackling the current global financial melt down, the government at all level and organized private sector also has the responsibility of proffering solutions to the economic crisis at hand, obvious that the consequences of the current recession might not be good for the nation as a whole. He said that “the chamber believes that action is needed and not pronouncements”.
