Insurance Tycoon and well read Mr. Sunny Oberuomor Adede is now the new president of Chartered Institute of Nigeria (CIIN). Recognizing the great challenge placed on him at an economically distressed time as this, he is all out to determine the standards of knowledge, set standards for skills to be acquired by insurance practitioner’s and to review such standards from time to time.
His agenda is to deepen the awareness of insurance and the knowledge of the subject in the Nigerian populace. To achieve this, he plan to create a mass-media driven awareness programme that would lay emphasis on mass education on various aspects of insurance and the value to individuals, businesses and the Nation’s economy as a whole. With funding as the key to the successful execution to any project, he looks forward to getting finances from the industry, sponsors and grants.
He affirms that the industry is making progress in terms of capacity development; though not yet at her ideal position which is a function of the countries development but with the support and cooperation of the government and National Insurance Commission, the industry will be able to retain most of the peak risk in this market
On the issue of alleged premium income withholding by insurance brokers, Adeda said his firm opinion is on the due process which stipulates that brokers are allowed to collect premium on behalf of insurance companies within a 30days frame within which they should make remittance to the insurance companies. He also assures the public that institute’s code of conduct binds every insurance practitioner and any member who defaults will normally be subjected to the disciplinary committee.
Sunny Oberuomor Adede expressed his joy at the current acceptance rate of the institute diploma certificate and assured that his tenure will intensify efforts for its accreditation. He will also endeavor partnership with other African countries and West African states to make the certificate acceptable in all countries of the continent.
With not up to 1% of the insurance company presently explored, he envisages a very bright future for the sector. He therefore invites all members of the institute and friends of the industry to join the daunting task of ensuring that every Nigerian know about insurance as a profession and ultimately become consumers of the industries products and services.
Conclusively, the newly elected president of Chartered Institute of Nigeria (CIIN); Sunny Oberuomor Adede stated that he will be fulfilled if at the end of his tenure, all the goals he has anticipated will be accomplished.
