Since its incorporation in 1965, Unic Insurance plc. has built a reputation as a strong underwriting house providing its numerous policyholders the security of its Financial Reserves, Underwriting Expertise and First-Class Reinsurance Treaties.Forty years after, UNIC continues to deliver quality service consistent with the UNIC brand name to its market.

Unic insurance plc. was incorporated on April 2, 1965 to underwrite non-life class of insurance business, as the United Nigeria Insurance Company Limited following the merger of the Northern Assurance Company Limited and White Cross Insurance Company Limited, both overseas insurance companies. The company commenced operations on October 1, 1965.

In 1990, the company was renamed “The United Nigeria Insurance Company PLC" following the divestment of government interest in the Company under the Federal Government Privatisation and Commercialisation Programme.

The company was again renamed “ Unic Insurance PLC" by a Resolution passed by shareholders at the 29th Annual General Meeting in Lagos, Nigeria on November 9, 1994.

In 1994, UNIC became a composite company with operations spanning life, non-life and special risks insurance business following its merger with its composite sister company - The United Nigeria Life and General Insurance Company PLC.

Ownership of the company changed in 2001 with the new Board redefining the Vision and Mission of the company. That same year, the company went through a re-engineering process to realign its operations to support the new vision and the changing needs of the market.

Our Operations

UNIC runs an extensive network of IT driven operations spanning over 200 independent agents and the UNIC branch and sub-offices located in 18 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

UNIC’s staff strength of 184 are spread across its branch office network and the Head Office in Lagos.
